Event Kicks Off Band’s ‘Not In The Park’ Summer Picnic Series

MELBOURNE, FL, May 29, 2009 – The Melbourne Municipal Band presents its first ‘Not In The Park Picnic’ concert of the summer season on June 16 and 18 with ‘A Star Spangled Celebration.’ The concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium on Hibiscus Blvd., and the audience is invited to bring family, friends and a picnic dinner to enjoy. Admission is free.

Special musical selections include “Hail to Our Flag,” a solo sung by band manager David Ewing; “Overture on a Sunday Afternoon,” led by Associate Conductor Staci Cleveland; the Dixieland-themed “Tailgate Concerto”; film score classics from well-known films; and the dramatic Finale from Dmitri Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony.

“There is literally something that will appeal to everyone’s musical taste in this concert,” said Clair Christy, conductor. “Our musicians are very excited with the selections and we know our audience will have a wonderful evening.”

Instead of traditional concert seating, long tables will be set up to enable a ‘dinner and show’ experience and audience members can bring along their picnic dinners. Drinks, ice and snacks will be available for purchase at the Concession Table.

There is no charge for the concert, but tickets must be obtained in advance or at the door. Tickets are available at many locations and can now also be obtained via e-mail: call 724-0555 or visit www.mmband.org for more information. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30.
