Local Swing-N-Sync Dance Team To Perform
MELBOURNE, FL, June 26, 2009 – The sounds of summer will have a familiar beat as the Swingtime Jazz Band – part of the Melbourne Municipal Band – plays two “Remember When” concerts July 15th and 16th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium. They are the second in the band’s annual ‘Not-In-The-Park’ Picnic Concert series and the audience is invited to bring a picnic dinner. Concessions are available.
Musical selections will feature band member Don Staples playing Henry Mancini’s popular love theme from The Glenn Miller Story and Art Martin playing tenor saxophone on Skylark. The audience also will be treated to the Buddy Morrow version of Night Train, as well as Bandstand Boogie, the theme to American Bandstand. Popular local vocalists Sally Hart and Len Fallen will sing during the concert.
Audience members also will be treated to a special performance by the “Swing-N-Sync” Dance Team, directed by Laura and John Beers. On the 15th, they will perform during intermission, and on the 16th they will perform at approximately 6:15, prior to the concert. About the Melbourne Municipal Band
The Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB), established in 1965, plays free concerts for the citizens of Brevard County nearly every month, and also contributes to the community through parades, patriotic concerts and ceremonial performances. Some 30 percent of the band’s 80-plus members are professional musicians. In a typical year, the band serves 69,000 concert attendees and its members give 27,000 hours of community service in the form of rehearsals and performance time.
Swingtime is the MMB’s 20-piece jazz band, playing music from the 1920s to the 1970s. The for-hire band features saxophones, trombones, trumpets, a piano, guitar, bass and trap set, along with two vocalists and a conductor/announcer.
