MELBOURNE, FL, August 26, 2009 – The Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB) will present two free “Strike Up the Band” concerts on September 29 and 30 in recognition of Honor America, Inc., whose goals are to inspire pride in American citizenship by increasing awareness of American ideals and accomplishments.
The concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium. The program, led by Associate Conductor Staci Cleveland, will have wide appeal for audience members and will feature patriotic music, as well as lighter works, such as music from the movie Silverado and some audience favorites from Leroy Anderson. Band member David Ewing will perform The Debutante, a trumpet solo. Other selections include music from A Chorus Line, and La Sorella, a concert march based upon Spanish themes.
The MMB each year presents half of the donations it receives during the performances to Honor America, Inc. to help further the organization’s mission.
“One of our mail goals is to contribute to the American cultural experience through concerts and patriotic music, and Honor America shares our vision to inspire patriotism and pride in our nation and its music,” explained Anne Adams, chair of the MMB Board of Trustees. “The Honor America concert series is very popular with our audience and we are pleased to be able to continue this tradition.”
The Melbourne Auditorium is located at 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd. Doors open at 6:30. Free tickets available at many locations: call 724-0555 or visit the MMB web site at www.mmband.org for more information and updates.
