Fun, Family-friendly Concert Features Four of Brevard’s Up-and-Coming Musicians
MELBOURNE, FL, March 15, 2011 – The Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB) will showcase the exceptional musical talents of four area students when it presents its “Spacecoast Spectacular” concert at 7:30 p.m. April 20 and 21, at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd. The concert is free and tickets are not required.
In addition to popular selections by the MMB, under the direction of Principal Conductor Staci Cleveland, the concert will feature:
~ Sisters Marissa Nichole Voors, 17, playing the flute, and Sandy Voors, 16, playing the clarinet. Each will perform a solo and then will join the band in a duet. Both are very active in the Space Coast Young Marine program and provide free music lessons to at-risk students through Club Esteem in Palm Bay.
~ Tristan Charles Rhodeside, 15, playing the violin. He has more than 12 years of musical experience and is the concert master of the Philharmonic Orchestra at the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra.
~ Lainey MacKinnon, 10, a vocalist who will perform Over the Rainbow with the band. She recently received two Superior ratings in vocal competition at the State Music Federation competition in Jacksonville.
“These concerts are an expression of MMB’s core mission, which is to provide free musical education for our members and our community,” said Cleveland. “I’m really looking forward to giving these inspiring young musicians the opportunity to perform. They have been working really hard to prepare, and I know this concert is going to be an experience they will never forget.”
Pre-concert music begins at 6:45 p.m. both evenings. On April 20, it will include the “Soul Patrol,” a jazz sextet from Viera High School, and the ART Trio, string players from the Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra. On April 21, the ART Trio makes another appearance, along with the Holy Trinity Glee Club and a Brass Quintet.
